Windthrow is a mining town situated at the foot of a large mesa. It is one of the first locations Rainbow Dash visits in the series. When Rainbow Dash first visited, it was plagued by an unearthly fog and Chaos Monsters. With the help of Gold Petals and other residents of the town, along with a group of captured Unicorns, she recovers and disposes of the Chaos Metal strips that control the monsters and summon the mist. It was here that Rainbow Dash first discovered the Machine World and the Ruby Flame, and in general serves as exposition for the rest of the story.
