The Chaos Rift is a tear in the firmaments left behind in the middle of Ponyville after the destruction of Discord. The encroaching chaos energies require the constant attention of Princess Celestia to counter, a task which she herself claims may take hundreds of years. Since the initial incident, a concrete temple-like structure was built around the Rift to assist in its containment.
